Fantasy Armour Fitting for Full Busts

Flat breastplates don't work on a full chest. This guide covers patterning and shaping armour that accommodates and celebrates a heavy bust.

The Problem With Standard Armour Patterns

Most foam armour patterns are drafted flat or with minimal bust shaping. On a larger bust, a flat breastplate sits away from the body, creating a gap that looks unfinished. The most reliable solution is to drape your own pattern directly from your body.

Draping a Breastplate Pattern

Wrap the torso area in cling film, cover with 2–3 layers of packing tape, draw the breastplate shape, and cut it off carefully. Flatten it — this is your pattern, already shaped to your specific chest. Transfer to EVA foam and heat-shape for the finished piece.

Working With EVA Foam

Heat EVA foam with a heat gun until pliable, then shape over a rounded form. Hold until cooled. The foam holds the shaped form permanently. For a pronounced bust shelf, shape over a rounded form of similar diameter to your bust.

Worbla Over Foam

For detailed surface work, cover the shaped foam core with Worbla thermoplastic. Worbla activates at lower temperatures, moulds precisely, and accepts paint and finishing products well.
