Before the Day
Test your full costume for at least 2 hours at home before the convention — walk around, sit down, check in mirrors and photos. Identify any support failures, discomfort, or costume issues. There is always time to fix something at home; there rarely is at the convention.
Convention Day Support
Pack your support solutions plus backups. Fashion tape, safety pins, and spare adhesive cups have saved countless convention days. Know your emergency repair plan for the most likely failure points in your costume.
Cosplay Is Not Consent
Wearing any costume is not an invitation for touching, unsolicited commentary, or photography without permission. Know where the convention's harassment reporting desk is. You are always within your rights to decline photography.
Photography
Have your character's poses in mind before approaching convention photographers. Natural light near windows or doorways almost always beats convention hall lighting. The convention's professional photo booth is worth the cost for your best costumes.
Comfort and Recovery
Schedule seated breaks every 2 hours. Bring flat shoes or comfortable alternatives for the end of the day. Hydrate. A great convention day is one you can remember fondly — not one you pushed through in pain.
