Choosing Cosplay Characters for Full Busts

Any Character, Any Body

The most important principle: any character can be cosplayed by any body type. There is no rule requiring physical similarity to the source material. Creative reinterpretation is part of what makes cosplay an art form. That said, some character designs naturally accommodate a full bust without modification, which makes them easier starting points.

Fantasy Characters

Fantasy elves, goddesses, sorceresses, and warriors often have costumes with generous necklines, fitted bodices, and dramatic silhouettes that work beautifully with a full bust. Dark fantasy characters — witches, demons, necromancers — use dramatic drapery and gothic silhouettes that are extremely flattering.

Anime Characters

Anime is full of large-busted canonical character designs, which means costumes can often be made to the source character's proportions rather than requiring creative reinterpretation.

Sci-Fi Characters

Sci-fi costumes present more fitting challenges — fitted suits and armour don't naturally accommodate a heavy chest. But they also offer the opportunity for impressive armour construction. See our armour guide for techniques.
